Another Great Oster May 5, 2008 Bunnyworld This blender replaced another Oster that lasted twenty years, and we like the new one even better. The metal to metal drive really makes a difference in longevity, and the wide jar is easy to use.
Spin Baby Spin April 30, 2008 90210 Hillbilly (So Cal) I just got the Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black today along with the Oster Milkshake Blade Blender Accessory 6670 and as with any new kitchen toy have tried it out on a number of things. I throughly enjoy the Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black and think we are going to have a long happy, culinary relationship together.
Blend Away April 23, 2008 Eileen C. Fitzpatrick (St. Augustine Fl.) I am enjoying my new blender. I use it for making shakes and pureeing soups. It fulfills my needs very well. The thing I like best about it is that the pitcher is glass which allows for easy cleaning. It is a bit shorter than my previous blender and fits easily on the counter beneath the cabinets. A very satisfactory purchase.
Powerful, but sometimes hard to seat properly. April 21, 2008 JRK (GA) Makes quick work of ice & other drink mixers. But it sometimes doesn't seat completely on the motor. it will still work, but makes a wretched noise. Just jiggle a little and it goes away. good value otherwise.
Makes Fastest and Best Smoothie April 10, 2008 Jay Ts (Sedona, Earth) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got this blender to replace my dying 2 year-old KitchenAid, which I thought was going to last much longer.
After reading the reviews on this model and seeing the price, I had to try one. I removed it from the box about a half hour ago, and already have made my first smoothie, from a banana, hard-frozen fruit and 8 oz of soymilk.
I've never had a blender, even the expensive KitchenAid, that could handle grinding down the "ice", while also blending every bit of the soft banana together, without some chunks of frozen stuff or banana globs remaining in the mix. This blender did it! And really fast, too, which is even more amazing.
There are downsides: Look at the price. There must be something. The blender really is noisy, and it it's not just the volume, but that it has a much rougher sound than other blenders I've owned. (Think "chainsaw" or "leaf blower", rather than Formula One ;). It takes a sense of humor to like that part of it. And I suggest you take Oster's claim of "continuous, smooth blending" lightly. The stuff inside the blender is smooth, but the sound of it happening is not! :)
The build quality overall seems like that of other blenders in its price range. (Photos can be deceptive, so don't expect too much.)
However, the jug is real glass! The blades are really sharp! And the design overall is very reasonable. Nothing really fancy, designed to be easily affordable. The noise is supposedly because the gears are metal, for reliability. It seems there are no non-metal parts in the drivetrain anywhere, right out to the blades. I like that, because plastic or rubber parts were the weak links in all of my previous blenders, including the $100+ KitchenAid.
