Product Description Give your kitchen a modern appliance with retro styling. Enjoy healthy fruit smoothies in the a.m. and less innocent beverages in the p.m. The continuous speed and pulse along with a stainless steel cutting blade will have your ingredients chopped, blended, and purEed in next to no time.
Amazon.com Powered by a 500-watt motor, this classic blender blends margaritas and smoothies, mixes soups and sauces, chops fruits and vegetables, grinds coffee beans and nuts, grates cheese and coconut, and crushes ice. The blender has a high speed and a low-speed pulse control, which can be held down for continuous action. Its 40-ounce, ribbed-and-tapered glass container fits onto Oster's distinctive beehive-shaped base, which is clad in lustrous chrome and outfitted with slip-proof rubber feet. Its stainless-steel blade-assembly removes for cleaning, and the container is calibrated in both ounces and liters. Fully assembled, the blender stands 16 inches high on a 7-1/4-inch-diameter base. With the exception of the dishwasher-safe glass container, all parts--including the plastic lid with its plastic 2-ounce measuring insert--require hand washing. The blender carries a one-year warranty against defects, and its instruction booklet includes dozens of recipes. --Fred Brack

My wife swears by it for baby food May 3, 2008 Obsessive shopper (Richfield, MN United States) A definite upgrade over standard blenders, the beehive is sturdy, heavy, and solid. Handles anything we've thrown at it without fussing or smelling "hot" and "ozoney". We use it most often to grind up food for the baby, and we've gotten perfect infant-safe results with no chunks. The glass top is nice because it doesn't end up looking hazy like the plastic ones do.
Perfect for Bodybuilders/Fitness People April 29, 2008 AdamSSB (Woodbridge, VA) I have owned this blender for 18 months. I am a competitive natural bodybuilder, and as such, I make anywhere between 4 and 8 shakes a day. I cannot attest to its use for blending solid foods or ice - the "hardest" thing I have blended in it are oats. I have used it almost exclusively for blending various powders in water/milk.
- The simple Pulse/ON switch is easy to use and requires zero brainpower - perfect for those 6:00am or middle-of-the-night shakes.
- The container is very thick and solid. I've never dropped it, but I've smacked it into plenty of stuff and it's as good as the day I bought it.
- After making anywhere between 2500 and 3500 shakes in the last 18 months, I have noticed NO decrease in power. (this blender is very loud, if that matters to you)
- The lid (which I abuse horribly) is in 95% of it's original condition (a very small crack in the lip).
Again - I'm sure blending ice/foods frequently will result in a different experience than I have had. However, for anyone who uses their blender for simple protein/carb shakes - I really doubt you can do any better than this for the price (possibly the Professional Series).
THIS IS THE BEST BLENDER! YOUR SEARCH IS OVER! STOP BUYING INTO ALL THE OTHER HYPES! April 22, 2008 Silvia Orozco (Camarillo, CA) I've had my Oster beehive blender for about 3 years now. It mixes margaritas like no other and I make them almost every day, my time to come home start dinner & watch Ellen while sipping on my drink is the best. It just now finally gave out and it was not the motor! I never dried the metal between base and jar and it got rusted and of course now they don't sync with each other. I am using duct tape for now until my 2 new ones come in. I decided to pick up 2 just in case they get discontinued; that's how much I love my blender! My husband tried to convince me to buy the more expensive ones; why would I do that? This blender is the best out there hands down!! You won't regret this purchase just remember to dry the metal parts!
not just for blending beehives April 21, 2008 H. Q. Latimer Dodds (Pedalto, North Dakota) A good blender for a variety of different blending options. While most other blenders only have one option ( blend) this blender has many different buttons to choose from. The transparent holder is a vast improvement over their model with black electrical tape wrapped around the interior. For one you could not see what you were blending, secondly little bits of the tape would end up in everything you made, and thirdly you always had to get more tape, like every two weeks. in this model the tape is optional and goes on the outside if you prefer not to see what you are blending. As well, the tape is only 1 inch in width, unlike the 10 inch width tape, what a nightmare. kudos to oster for fixing all of the flaws of the previous model.
Osterizer April 20, 2008 K. Rutter (Kapaa, HI) the Oster classic beehive is classic in superficial appearance. However the motor is now a plastic encased gizmo, plenty strong enough and probably more efficient than the original. The beehive base is a disappointment because it is lightweight plastic, doh! The original I grew up with has a heavy cast base, probably a lethal weapon by today's standards. the chrome look turns out to bee tacky since it's really plastic, but it does osterize in a satisfying manner.
