1 out of 5 stars Design Flaw - Blades Hit Jar Interior   August 2, 2008

This blender has a design flaw (or poor manufacturing tolerances). The removable blade component can wobble around inside the jar, allowing the blades to hit the inside of the jar.

I received (and returned) two of these blenders from Amazon. In each case the blade hit the inside of the jar, causing the motor to strain, the blade to bend and carve a crevice into the jar.

This defect likely explains the motor problems noted in the other reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Great!!! Blender For The Price   July 4, 2008

Fantastic for its price and great for home use.

Use.....Works Great
I've had it for about a year now. I make my morning smoothie with it using big chunks of ice, frozen fruit, juice, fresh fruit, etc. They turn out very smooth. I also made a few blended ice teas, lattes, frap type drinks. With these I was very impressed how fine it blends up the ice. Soups and dressings are no problem for this blender.

Controls.....Great
Nice and simple!!! This blender has simple toggle switch with "off", "low", and "high", which makes for less stuff to break later Very nice not to waste money on 12 different settings and some digital display. I mean what is the real difference between puree and liquefy?

Construction....mostly good but a little bit of bad..
Nice heavy motor in base. Glass carafe is very nice. It has kind of a clover shape. This is really nice because in round carafe the contents end up going in a circle and not really blending.
The blade holder and the bottom of carafe that holds the blade piece in place are all made of plastic. These two pieces worry me. They are hard plastic but, they still feel like they could break easily. There is another annoying thing about these parts. The plastic base piece that holds the blade in place does not hold the blade solid. So the blade does vibrate up and down just a little bit. The blender still works great, but does make a rattling sound.
The blade is great. The blade has four different little spokes. It does a great job of getting the stuff around the bottom of the carafe. Nothing gets trapped down there and misses out on getting blended. The spokes also help move stuff from top to bottom.

What it is not, know what you are getting in to..
The smoothie and mixed drink recipes all say to use crushed ice or crush up the ice before you put it in the blender. If you use rock hard frozen fruit and big chunks of ice in this blender it will break quickly. Blenders range from like $500 to $20. Don't expect this blender to perform like a $500 vita-mix or blendtec. If this want a blender for heavy business use, to stand up to stuff that is rock hard, or used several times a day then go for a higher price range of blender.

This is a GREAT blender for $70. If you want to spend around $70 then get this blender.

1 out of 5 stars Not what I expected   June 13, 2008

I was disappointed when this mostly plastic appliance arrived. I was trying to replace a Kitchen Aid blender, that leaks all over the place.
There was something loose rolling around inside the base, so I decided that was an ominous sign of future problems, so I sent it back.
I don't understand why there are so many different models of this blender. My advice is to buy the original Waring, not the "PRO", or Classic. In my mind the "Classic" was never "plastic".

5 out of 5 stars super smoothie maker   April 16, 2008

My mother had a Waring Blender for a long time...and it worked well until just recently. So when it came to replace the old blender I decided to purchase another as close to the old blender as possible...and it makes the best smoothies ever. ***Secret to an awesome smoothie is to freeze all the fruit...especially the bananas***

5 out of 5 stars Gift with great warrantee   December 31, 2007

I bought this as a wedding gift for a friend, during its first use, the motor broke. I will admit it was being pushed to the limit and I was not surprised that it couldn't handle the challenge. After returning all necessary information, Waring replaced the unit within a week. Great company to do business with!
